Samantha Mack is a recent graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in Art and a minor in Professional Writing, currently working for the CMU School of Art Printmaking department under Technician Kellie Hames, and as a studio assistant to local artist Rachel Mica Weiss. Her current works draw on her heritage and relationships and translate them into physical form, creating portals and channels for emotion. She investigates internal and external states of mourning, remembrance, nostalgia, and identity as she re-traces and re-invents the creative practices of loved ones both living and deceased. Mack is interested in generational traditions of making, and in translating these forms into traditional media. By exploring the creative pursuits of those who came before her, she hopes to acknowledge and honor the impact they have made on her life and practice.
